I’m not going to lie to you, the risk can be quite clear: What about if by walking I create a bigger mess?

  2. Hello my name is rose and I have read your article. I have experienced a spiral fracture in my 5th Metatarsal. For the first 2 weeks the doctor just told me to use a hard sole shoe, which did not help at all, and I rolled on it a few times. Now I am in a walking boot and it has been the 5 week mark and I am still experiencing pain even while sitting. The question I have is that I am trying to get better to play field hockey but I don’t know how much longer I can take on the bench, and also how much longer it will take to heal. What should I do?

  3. Rose my advice is to keep up with with the boots, in my experience you just need to give it time. Have you tried to jump in a pool? Water seems to help a lot the recovery…

  4. I don’t have a Jones fracture…the dr. calls it a base fracture…closer to the ankle than the middle of the bone. I use an air cast. I’m over 70. I work out..I use the bike where you pedal sitting down for the duration of the healing. No problem with the rest of the workout..including 30 to 50 push ups a day.

I’ve been out of commission for 4 weeks.
Meaning I haven’t been walking with shoes on.

If I walk around the house without the cast the only discomfort is over the site close to the edge of the foot.

I figure if it the bone has trouble getting blood there the more I walk the better…I also do the alphabet with that feet so I practise range of montion.

Am I doing anything wrong. Is it possible to walk with strong supportive shoes by now. The latest x ray shows some healing taking place.
